Happy Thanks Giving

Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada, a time to give thanks for the bounty we have.

As Canadians, we have plenty to be thankful for.  As employers, it may be a good time to thank your employees for the bounty they bring to you.  Yes you pay them, but that only buys so much.  To be gifted with their hearts and minds, you need to appreciate them for the big and small things they do, for the mistakes (which we can all learn from and be better as a result of), for the progress, and contributions (many of which may be outside of the job requirements like a helping hand, a listening ear, or a smile for one and all).

Recognition is called a manager’s “tool”, but I see it as an attitude.  Cultivate an attitude of appreciation and make it a habit to recognize your employees when opportunities arise and you will find your people wanting to work with and for you.

So today, I wish you Happy Thanks Giving.  May you give thanks often and everywhere you can. The results will be bountiful.
