I can’t figure out why companies don’t embrace the offer letter.  It is one of the most beneficial documents a business can have, assuming they employ people.

The top 4 reasons I encourage offer letters are because they:Employment contract

  1. Document what was agreed to (and thereby set realistic expectations),
  2. Show what wasn’t agreed to even if only by noting their omission (which prevents future disgruntlement),
  3. Demonstrate a level of professionalism (which also attracts like-minded types and aids in weeding out those who aren’t), and
  4. Are an opportunity to communicate your brand and culture.

A good offer letter sets the foundation for your employment relationship.  Come back next week for what I like to put into offer letters.
