I agree with you 100%. Having grown up working retail (used to be perfect high school jobs), I remember being pressured into up-selling customers with the impulse items kept by the cash register. The way I see it, you as a customer came into the store looking for something. You either found it or you didn't. However, you don't need someone to point out something right in front of you to get you to purchase it.

Anyways, the best way I have found to handle the phone number requests is to give them an old number I don't use anymore. I've even created an email account specifically for these situations that I don't use for anything. We call it at home our Spam account. This way, I can give them the information, they get to do their job as instructed, and no one loses. I hate that they act like this information is crucial to completing your purchase when it's just to send you marketing junk or sell your data to some company to add money to the bottom line.

Your suggestions are really great, though. I would definitely visit your retail store!

Why do so many people think that those who are voting to keep the HST are pro-Liberal?

I have NEVER voted for the provincial Liberals. I despise Gordon Campbell. But I voted to keep the HST because it is the smarter, better tax. Bottom line. And I made this decision without Kool-Aid.

Corporations simply pass the tax burden on to the consumer anyways Bruce. To vote no means our government paying out billions back to the Feds as well as the cost of resetting the system. We will see price reductions in time as well as the HST make BC more desirable for investment and business. Tax base then goes up from more people being employed and more business being done.

I'm voting NO to save billions of taxpayer dollars and to encourage investment in British Columbia.

Shawnee you have obviously been drinking the Liberal Koolaid. This is not about punishing Campbell or the Liberals for lying or exceeding the bounds of authority given them by the electorate. This is about an unfair tax that reduced the tax burden on corporations by 1/2 and foists that burden onto the populace. It is debatable the extent to which business may reduce prices in response but it will certainly not pass all the savings on to us.

I will be voting YES not to punish anyone but to restore some semblance of fairness into our tax system.

Perhaps the middle ground is COLA for all; then merit pay based on contribution. I believe that merit pay should be universal in the organization which I *know* is not traditional-we have merit pay for employees and then bonus pay for employees that are senior level managers. Stop that-we have all seen senior level managers 'earn' their bonus for pretty much the same level of contribution that a non-management employee provides. Yes, the manager has more 'responsibility' but the employee has less control. If you can make a significant contribution with less control then....well we know the answer to that.
BTW: Love your website and blog-very well done.
