Volunteering is alive and well in Canada.  This year, Canada has introduced the 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge, “a nation-wide campaign to encourage Canadians to give 150 hours of volunteer time in 2017 in celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary”.Print

Here’s 3 reasons why employers should promote volunteering at their workplaces:

  1. Volunteering creates cohesion amongst those who participate (strengthens the team),
  2. Volunteering feels good to participants and is thus a way to build individual wellness (improves morale and productivity), and
  3. Volunteering increases employee’s positive perceptions of their employer (increases loyalty and ambassadorship).

Looking for ways to get started?  May we suggest you check out your local volunteer resource center.  Another wonderful resource is Volinspire who have created a community engagement platform to help organizations initiate and manage their volunteerism.

We’d also love to hear your stories of company volunteerism and the results you reaped.  Please comment below.
