I rarely get time to watch CBC news, but when I do, it is always enlightening.

Today the big stories are:

Ontario’s Anti Bullying Law takes effect today. It piggy-backs their occupational health & safety legislation requiring employers to protect workers against violence and bullying in the workplace. This legislation is important to all employers because where Ontario goes, many other jurisdictions follow. Get ahead of the game and create and implement your policy now and make a point of never looking the other way when observing or  hearing about bullying in the workplace.

US Congressional hearings with the oil industry execs discovers the oil companies are building emergency plans to help the Gulf of Mexico walruses in the event of an oil spill. Sounds like something Rick Mercer might pull in his comedy sketches “Talking to Americans”.  I am truly not making this up!

In Britain, the government released the report and acknowledged that Sunday, Bloody Sunday was wrong, unjust and unjustifiable- 28 years after the British Army opened fire on and killed the apparently innocent Catholic protesters. “Better late than never” is trite, but sometimes the simple acknowledgment of wrongdoing can go a long way to helping people move forward and heal. I hope the people affected gain some peace from the reopening of that wound.

And back to Canada for my final interesting news story. The Canadian AG, Sheila Fraser has been granted the right to audit MP’s books- FINALLY! I look forward to the entertaining stories and squirming that I suspect will follow. Even better news is that the threat of being audited alone should keep our MP’s a little more cost conscious. We are one step closer to running our country with the same rules expected of our businesses. A great leap for Canada I say!
