Get out and Vote Canada!

Amidst such huge news as a Royal Wedding, the end of the manhunt for Osama, and the Canucks not showing up for the first 3 periods of Saturday’s game, a vote about which party will get to lead our country may not seem all that interesting. However, in my opinion, voting is a right that only those who have it can be so lackadaisical about.

I think that we are at a crucial point in our country and the decisions we make or choose not to make will seriously affect the future of our country. Our baby boomers are just starting to retire (first of the baby boom generation started turning 65 in 2011) so we will soon see them leaving the workforce (whether as owner or employee).  It also means they will be moving on to pensions and using health care resources more, which seem to be strained already if hospital waiting rooms and surgical wait times are any kind of indicator. Health care and pensions are threatened if there isn’t adequate money in the coffers, yet our economy which weathered the storm better than most of Canada’s peers is still not out of the woods, so a clear vision along with the stability and ability to execute are needed.

I am worried we are a bit like a frog in a pot of water unknowingly swimming around not noticing that the water is heating up slowly, and by the time it is boiling it will be too late. Get out to vote now for whomever you think can best get us out of the current pot we’re swimming in.
