Great Managers

I have blogged in the past on the differences between leaders and managers but today I want to address the fact that if you are managing a team of people, regardless of the role you play in your company, you are the leader of your team.  If you aren’t already feeling the pressures of leadership, how do you feel after I point out that

People join companies and leave Managers

With that reality, comes great responsibility in my opinion because you make or break your employees’ opinion of the company.  If you “make it”, the company doesn’t have to be all that good.  Employees will stay because it is great to work with you and the team you have nurtured.  If you are just the “jerk in charge”, then no matter how great of a company or how great the benefits or perks or  wages, people will always be leaving.  That being the case, it is pretty important for companies to carefully select managers rather than simply promoting someone who is good at their job.

While there is no one right way, there are some qualities and skills that can make positions on your team the most sought after in the company.  We will look at these qualities and skills over the upcoming blogs and look forward to receiving comments and suggestions.
